Klondike Summit, Liarsville Experience & Gold Panning - (SGY-110)
Excursion Description Activity Level : Moderate

Surrounded by magnificent natural beauty, Skagway holds a unique place in Alaskan history. Known as the "Gateway to the Yukon," It played a key role in the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-1898. Its dramatic history is still alive and your motorcoach tour begins with a scenic drive through the center of town. You can sense the excitement and nostalgia around every corner as you drive past boardwalk-lined streets and false-front buildings, through historic downtown on your way to Liarsville.

So named for the tall-tales that journalists reported from the area during the excitement of the Klondike Gold Rush, Liarsville is a recreation of a tent city from 1898, complete with all the fun and excitement of its heyday. Gather under the Hippodrome, where a cast of sourdoughs and dance hall girls entertain you with a robust melodrama, recite poetry by the "Bard of the North," Robert Service and teach you the art of gold panning.
Then you're set free in the Liarsville gold fields with a guarantee that you?ll find that precious metal that drove men and women wild with gold fever. Once you've made your fortune, take some time to wander through the camp and visit the Fancy Goods Gift Shop, bordello and laundry tents where you can view the antiques and vintage clothing left behind by miners and ladies of the evening. Have your photo taken with a dance hall girl or the camp mascot, a lovable Alaskan malamute named Denali and enjoy some cookies and traditional apple cider.
Departing the camp, you?ll continue your motorcoach journey paralleling the famed White Pass & Yukon Route railroad. You?ll thrill to breathtaking views as you reach the summit, 3,290 feet above sea level. Along the way, your knowledgeable guide will regale you with stories of stampeders as you trace their footsteps along Brackett's Wagon Road, Pitchfork Falls, Dead Horse Gulch and the infamous Tormented Valley. Have your camera ready for number of photo opportunities along the way.
Board a jet-powered catamaran specially designed for wildlife viewing. The warm, spacious main cabin welcomes you and the panoramic windows offer breathtaking views. Admire the majestic backdrop of snow-capped peaks and glaciers as your experienced captain guides you through the island-studded waters of Stephens Passage.
At the completion of your adventure, you will have the option of returning directly to the ship or you may choose to stay in town and explore sensational Skagway independently.

White Pass Scenic Railway - (Code: SGY- 200)
  Excursion Description Activity Level: Easy

Experience the most popular attraction in Skagway! Convenient dockside service allows you to board alongside the ship instead of making your own way to the train depot. Your fully narrated, 40-mile round-trip adventure on the historic, narrow gauge railroad is an unforgettable way to see the beauty of the area and to learn its colorful history.
The White Pass & Yukon Route is unlike any other railroad. Against all odds, the iron trail was carved through some of the North's most rugged terrain in 1898. The engineering wonder is an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, an honor shared with Eiffel Tower, Panama Canal and Statue of Liberty. Considered an impossible feat, the railway was completed in 26 months by blasting through the mountains with 450 tons of explosives. The 110-mile railroad was officially completed when a final golden spike was hammered into place on July 29, 1900 in Carcross, Yukon.
The fully restored cars, pulled by vintage diesel locomotives, climb nearly 3,000 feet over 20 miles of steep grades and around cliff hanging turns. You'll retrace the original route to the White Pass summit, passing Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point and Dead Horse Gulch. Take in the breathtaking panorama of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels, trestles and historic sites from your large, picture windows. As you travel, the train agent serves as your guide, recounting fascinating tales of Gold Rush history. You'll even see the original Klondike Trail of '98 worn into the rocks, a permanent tribute to the thousands of souls who passed this way in search of fortune. At the completion of your excursion, convenient dockside service returns you directly to your ship.
